Posted November 1, 2007 -- Rapper Da Brat was arrested outside Atlanta following an early morning dispute at Jermaine Dupri's night spot, Studio 72.
According to reports, the 33-year-old, born Shawtae Harris, was involved in an altercation with a waitress at Durpi's club, which is located in Tucker, Ga. on Lawrenceville Highway. Da Brat apparently took issue with the waitress bumping into her and then it turned more serious.
"According to witnesses, after the pushing, the waitress walked away, and a short time later, that's when Harris picked up a bottle and hit the waitress in the face with it," DeKalb County Police spokeswoman Mekka Parish told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The rum bottle broke, lacerating the 23-year-old waitress's cheek. She was driven to a local hospital by friends.
Da Brat, born Shawntae Harris, was arrested at the nightclub around 1:20 a.m. and charged with felony aggravated assault. Parish said she would be detained in the DeKalb County jail until her court appearance, which would be held within 72 hours after her arrest.
The incident wasn't Da Brat's first. In March 2000, she was arrested for allegedly pistol-whipping a woman in a Buckhead, GA nightspot after the woman refused to leave the VIP area. Da Brat was fined $1,000, placed on probation for 12 months and ordered to serve 80 hours of community service.
