On Saturday (March 30) Andre Benjamin, better known to the hip hop community as Andre 3000 (the other half to Grammy Award winning hip hop duo, Outkast) was arrested for speeding on highway I-75 in Atlanta, Georgia. The rapper/actor was clocked at going 109 mph in a 65 mph zone in Henry County early Saturday morning.
Authorities from Henry County, who said Benjamin was passing by cars as if they were standing still, was detained due the danger he posed to other pedestrians on the road at the time. After authorities pulled Andre over, who was operating a 2007 Porsche Carrera, he cited being late for a birthday party as his reason for speeding excessively.
Georgia represenative, Jim Cole, who is cosponsoring the state's "Super Speeder Bill", says the bill is targeted toward offenders traveling over 85 mph and assess an additional $200 fine to vehicles traveling on highways and four lane roads. Cole hopes that once that bill is passed, Benjamin will turn his speeding incident into a positive and help promote the bill and safer driving.
Andre 3000 is set to appear in court on April 29.
