Michael Jackson is set to return to the stage in a series of concerts in London’s O2 Arena, BET.com has learned.
The King of Pop is slated to make the announcement at a press conference tomorrow according to Celena Aponte, a spokesperson for AEG Live, which represents the O2 Arena.
Sky News reports that Jackson, 50 will announce the first in what will likely be a string of dates at the venue, which holds 20,000 people.
The O2 Arena has become a staple for housing large scale concerts and comeback attempts like the one Jackson is trying to pull off. Prince played 21 dates at the venue last year and a resurgent Britney Spears is scheduled to play eight nights in June.
Though Jackson’s promoters are betting that the series of concerts will take in millions, other entities hope to profit off the King of Pop’s failures.
According to an Associated Press report, online betting site William Hill is offering 5-to-1 odds that Jackson will be a no show for the first concert. "Once people start buying tickets they may well want to have a bet that he won't show up as a form of insurance," company spokesman Graham Sharpe said.
Betting aside, a string of Michael Jackson come back shows still has the potential to be a big seller even though Jackson has not released a studio album since 2001’s “Invincible.”
Jackson is currently the best selling artist of all time with more than 750 million albums sold.
