THE SCOOP: Kirk Franklin, Rev. Al Sharpton, Cassie

Posted November 1, 2007 -- “Declaration (This Is It!),” the first single from gopsel superstar Kirk Franklin’s latest album The Fight of My Life is the #1 most added and #1 most increased airplay at gospel radio, according to Eurweb.com. “This song is a statement that ‘serves notice’ on unnecessary frustrations, relationships and circumstances that continue to attack our life,” Franklin said. Franklin was named this year’s BET Awards Best Gospel Artist and is the biggest-selling contemporary gospel artist in Soundscan history. The Fight of My Life, due in stores Dec. 18, is his follow up to 2005’s platinum-selling Hero.

R&B singer Cassie makes her big-screen debut in “Step Up 2: The Streets,” due in theatres next February. Cassie plays a dancer in the sequel to last year’s fictional film about a group of students from the Maryland School of the Arts and will appear on the soundtrack. A winner picked from a contest the film is running on its Myspace.com site, will get on the sountrack as well. The contest, running until Nov. 12, allows rappers and vocalists to submit a video demo. Gospel/soul/rap artist Kevin L, Ray Charles' stepson, joined forces with activist Rev. Al Sharpton to initiate a cross-country peace movement called the H13 Project. The project will travel to schools and communities nationwide delivering musical performances, giveaways, and lectures from celebrities. Their goal is to employ the same marketing tactics used to promote “gangster” and “thug” images to make peace popular.
