Posted May 7, 2008 -- With rumors swirling about Trick Daddy’s next recording home, the sunshine state representative has finally opened up about his current situation, sort of. In an exclusive interview with BET.com, Trick Daddy discusses unifying the south, and a new merger with one of the industry’s most prominent record labels.
Though Trick hasn’t solidified a recording home for himself, a meeting with Cash Money Records CEO’s, Bryan “Baby” Williams and Ronald “Slim” Williams did in fact land his group, The Dunk Ryders, who consist of Iceberg Billion and Lil Fella, a successful deal with the label, “Me, Baby, Slim and my brother Chuck got together and came up with a great deal for the Dunk Ryders album,” Trick told BET.com.
And with Baby and Wayne heading the Cash Money movement, it was only fitting to receive contributions from both parties. Trick said of the new material, “The Dunk Ryders album is just about wrapping up, so we’re about to get Weezy and Baby on there to bring it home.”
But while many consider the joint venture a path for Trick Daddy to join the Cash Money fold, Trick is taking it one step at a time. “The only deal I have is with the Dunk Ryders. We’re sitting at the table now discussing other album deals with Cash Money/Universal as well,” Trick asserted.
With the South, specifically Florida, remaining at the forefront of hip hop right now, Trick is calling for his comrades to unify for a greater cause in the near future. “The dudes from the South need to get together and do one of those self destruction albums. The East coast did one and the West coast did one so I think we need to get together, do some concerts and donate some money to these non profit organizations,” stressed Trick. And since some of his cohorts are fairing well financially, he feels it’s time to give back to the environments they once were connected to. “There is a couple of us out there doing it, but we ain't doing enough. They have a lot of nice cars and nice jewelry in these videos, but it’s time to give back to your hood.”
At press time, a specific release date for The Dunk Ryders project was not given, but the set will be released via Cash Money Records/Universal.
