"Where The Wild Things Are" director Spike Jonze and controversial rapper Kanye West recently collaborated on “We Were Once a Fairytale”—a short film that raised eyebrows and was taken down within days of appearing online.

While West has yet to speak on the matter, Jonze addressed the clip during an interview with the New York Times.

“This is the first time it's happened to me," Mr. Jonze told The Times in reference to online piracy. "And it is a weird feeling, like, 'Wait a second - I wasn't ready to put that out! That's mine. Uh, no, I guess it's not mine anymore.'"

Jonze went on to explain the creative process he and West followed. “We rehearsed the night before we shot, and talked about trying to get to that raw place, that sad, pathetic, drunken, lost place,” Jonze added. “I told him, the more shameless it is, the more pathetic it is, the better. He just went for it."

The film has not changed Spike Jonze's opinion of the oft-talked about rapper. "To me, I like him, I like Kanye and I care about him,” he shared. “This video is a side of him. Who knows? I don't know what the reception is going to be, but I love making stuff with him. I love the guy."
