In an excerpt of Good Morning America’s much anticipated interview with Rihanna, the singer spoke with Diane Sawyer about being ashamed to be in a relationship with Chris Brown.
As previously reported, the Good Morning America interview marks the first time Rihanna speaks on being assaulted by former boyfriend Chris Brown a night before the Grammy Awards earlier this year. During the tete-a-tete, RiRi gave her take on the challenges of leaving abusive relationships.
"It's pretty easy to go back," she told Sawyer. "You start lying to yourself. The physical wounds go away. You want this thing to go away. This is a memory you don't want to ever have again."
While Brown has publicly admitted to still caring for Rihanna, she sang a different tune when speaking with Sawyer. "I fell in love with this person,” she revealed. “That's embarrassing." The rest of the interview highlights Rihanna's humiliation involving the leaked photo of her battered face, how she could be a role model to young girls and hints that reconciliation is impossible.
