Trina is too confident to be jealous. Though Nicki Minaj obviously borrows the sexy femme fatale blueprint from artists like Foxy Brown, Lil’ Kim and Trina, the Brooklyn legends have yet to publicly cosign the Queens spitter. Meanwhile, the self-proclaimed “baddest chick” has nothing but praise for Minaj.
“I love her,” Trina told BET.com. “I think that she’s dope. I think that she’s talented. I think that she’s fly and I want to see her succeed, I want to see her, you know, get that bread that we got in this industry.”
The more sex-driven female MCs have always had a hard time co-existing. Foxy and Kim have been feuding for most of their careers, while Trina herself has bad blood with Khia. Still, despite Minaj’s current popularity, the Miami rapstress feels secure in her slot.
“That comes with confidence though, you know that right?” Trina explained. “Everybody’s not like that. If you’re not confident, you’re not going to be able to give props to another woman because so many bash me for that and I’m just like, I just got 100 percent confidence in my skill. I don’t know what your problem is.
“I give respect where respect is due and that’s basically what it is,” she added. “If I deal with you, I deal with you. If I don’t, I don’t. And it ain’t no insecurity, I love women. You do your thing, when you’re bad, do it.”
Though the two have yet to actually sit down face to face, they speak consistently via telephone and text message. Nicki is actually featured on Trina’s soon-to-be-released fifth studio LP, "Amazin’," which is slated to hit stores in 2010. The project also features guest appearances by Ludacris, Jagged Edge, Rick Ross, Keri Hilson and others.
Trina appears on the 2009 BET Hip-Hop Awards airing October 27th at 8/7c.
