For the first time in thirteen years, Roc-A-Fella Records head honcho, Jay-Z has secured his first number one single, “Empire State Of Mind” on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.
Featuring Alicia Keys, the third offering from Hova’s “Blueprint 3” opus has been pegged as NYC’s unofficial anthem. In addition to Jay and Alicia opening Game 2 with ‘Empire’, Hov’s rendition of the track concluded the Yankee’s World Series parade at City Hall earlier this month.
Though, ‘Empire’ is Hov’s first solo Billboard number one feat, this isn’t the first time Mr. Carter’s has paid a visit to Billboard’s Hot 100 mountain top.
Deemed as a guest vocalist on each, Jay’s topped the Hot 100 three by appearing on Mariah Carey’s, “Heartbreaker” in 1999, Beyonce’s, “Crazy In Love” in 2003 and Rihanna’s “Umbrella” in 2007.
