With an eclectic style and the cotton candy sweet single “Delirious,” teen pop duo Vistoso Bosses has captured the hearts of the 106 and Park crowd.  For cousins Taylah P, 18 and Kelci 17, who favor glittery eye make-up, neon clothing and cargo pants, the recognition is the ultimate reward for staying true to themselves. Growing up, they sang and performed together; two years ago, Taylah P and Kelci fused their musical talent and flair for drama to form Vistoso Bosses. The girls have a hand in every aspect of their budding careers, from writing their songs to choosing their own outfits.

They also chose their own name. “Vistoso” means colorful and bright in Spanish, and coupled with “bosses,” signifies their desire to be original and in control of their lives.  Thus far, Taylah P and Kelci’s master plan appears to be working.  A single on myspace drew legions of fans and spawned a movement of little girls sporting day-glo accessories and penciled on freckles.  BET spoke with the girly girls of Vistoso Bosses about their music and its message.

Bet.com: How did you come up with your name?

Kelci: Vistoso means gorgeous.  We looked it up on the Internet.  At first, we made a list and we picked gorgeous, then we translated it (online) and it came out as “vistoso” in Spanish.  It also has other meanings like creative, colorful, delightful, bright.  Bosses came from just taking charge of what we do.

Bet.com: How did you hook up?

Taylah P: We’re cousins.  Everybody in our entire family does something dealing with music, whether it’s producing, rapping, dancing playing instruments. We both have a passion for music, we’ve always loved it, and one day we decided to be a group.  From there, the rest is history.

Bet.com: How would you describe your unique style?

Kelci: The look is called Vistoso. We just started experimenting at our Nana’s house over the summer.  And just throwing on layers of clothes and just trying a lot of neon colors and putting freckles on our face.  But we were little so just started to wear the long socks, the cargo shorts, the backpacks, the freckles, the glitter on our eyes and all the fun stuff.

Bet.com: How did you come up with your single, “Delirious?”

Kelci: When we were in artist development, we got with St. James our producer.  He’s really part of our family so we call him like our father (laughs).  He actually had the song and we came in there, we were boy crazy and delirious at the time over boys, so we actually wrote our verse to the song and it became history after that and got on myspace and we got a lot of hits.

Bet.com: What does it mean to be a “Vistoso” Boss?

Taylah P: A “Vistoso” boss girl does whatever she wants and doesn’t really pay attention to what her peers say.  She’s her own person, creative, and a free spirit.  Someone who likes having fun, partying and rocking out and doing what they love to do.  She’s a UYL, an ultimate young lady.

Kelci: Ultimate young ladies trust their friends.  They’re loyal to one another.  Having respect for yourself and having other people have respect for you.

Bet.com: Do you see yourselves as role models?

Taylah P: People say we’re role models but we’re just being ourselves.  All of this is us, nobody put us together as far as our style, our makeup or our sound.  This is stuff that we’ve created.  It’s what we want to do.  We’re bosses and we just take control of everything.

Kelci: Our supporters really love the whole UYL movement, they love being themselves.  They love that we have fun and show love to them. We talk to them on Myspace (myspace.com/thevistosobosses)

Taylah: It feels really, really great to know that we inspire people to be themselves.  So many girls want to be themselves but can’t because of their peers.  We want to show that you can be yourself and still be cool at the same time.
