Ex-power pair Nas and Kelis have taken center stage, but not for their music. Aside from the controversy over Nas’ last album—which was tentatively titled “Nigger”— recent news of the couple’s divorce proceedings has made the two household names and has the industry buzzing.
Hip hop’s dynamic duo, Method Man and Redman, recently went to bat for Nas during a radio interview with the “EZ Street Show.” Upon hearing that Nas would have to fork over a reported $55,000 a month to Kelis, a new video circulating online features the pair weighing in on the judgment, the court system, and the role of fathers.
“That’s bullsh*t,” Redman responded upon hearing the news. “Russell [Simmons] doesn’t even pay that much.”
Method Man took a diplomatic approach saying, “I’m not speaking on Nas and Kelis ‘cause that would be disrespectful.”
But the Wu-Tang member went on a tear, stating that the court system is part of the problem and that some women look to the system to get rich by having a child by a rich man.
Redman also protested the decision, saying that “labels aren’t even giving out that kind of money anymore,” citing the decline of album sales and its effect on the industry.
“Yo Nas, we riding for you,” the pair pledged.
