Miami rapper Pitbull received one of his hometown’s highest honors this week when he was given the key to the city of Miami by Commissioner Tomas Regalado for his positive representation of the city.
"Pitbull not only lives in Miami, but he's been traveling the country and the world sharing a positive message of Miami," Commissioner Regalado told the Associated Press (AP). "So, we should honor not only the dignitaries that visit, but those individuals who make a positive impact on the city."
Pitbull was given the key Wednesday, August 19 during a ceremony at Miami City Hall. The outspoken rapper said the city has impacted his life and his music.
"I can't help but keep staring at it, because it's something I've worked so hard for," Pitbull explained to the AP. "I'm very passionate about Miami. Miami has built my character, and it has taught me a lot about life and helped me in my career.”
The ceremony came only days before the August 31 release of Pitbull’s fourth album, “Rebelution.” The album includes the singles "Krazy," "Calle Ocho," and "Hotel Room Service."
