Posted Feb. 26, 2008 – “Rip the Runway: Model Search ’08” is a one-hour special that follows the journey of four hopefuls from casting and rehearsals to the runway. Enter Jamillah Farrakhan. Something has to be said about “doing it on your own”. The granddaughter of the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan. A strikingly beautiful 23-year-old aspiring model. Many would use the power of a “influential relative”, or name-drop to get ahead in life but not Jamillah she wants to blaze her own path, become the modeling industry’s next shining star but, what’s so unique about her is she wants to use her fame to inspire others.
Tragedy struck Jamillah at an early age. A fire burned down her family’s home, and from that incident she walked away with a totally different approach to life. It took this for her understand that life was about more than material possessions.. It’s all about paying it forward and helping others along the way, a way of life that she has decided to incorporate into her success on the runway.
Basically a novice to the industry Jamillah hit the scene with a drive and desire to not allow anyone to deter her from her dreams. After sending a few photos to an agent Jamillah found her self in front of the cameras for her first modeling gig, Jay-Z’s “I WILL NOT LOSE” campaign for hip-hop clothing line ROC-A-WEAR, and let’s be clear.that is no easy feat.
Continuing to get her hustle on.. Jamillah is back in NYC to try and strut her stuff for BET on Rip the Runway, being quite the multi-tasker she will be attending a photo shoot and getting a “first look” for a high-end magazine during her visit to the Big Apple.
Using her faith in her creator and lessons learned from her parents and her grandfather she approaches the industry from a unique perspective. While some are willing to do “anything” to be famous, Jamillah stays grounded and believes she can show others that you can do anything in this world, without compromising your values and hold your head proud!
Her goals? To take the industry by storm… and why you ask? Not for the fame but to have the POWER to implement change. Change in the fashion industry. Change in the lives of women.. Following in the footsteps of her grandfather Jamillah will with out a doubt become one of today’s great leaders. all while she Rip’s The Runway.
