Reared in Brooklyn, N.Y., MC LYTE – also known as Lana Moorer – is keeping her finger on hip hop’s pulse while seriously pursuing an acting career.
LYTE, a pioneer in the hip-hop genre, is the first rap artist to perform at Carnegie Hall and the first female rapper to receive a gold single. MC LYTE, the first female solo rapper nominated for a Grammy, earned the nomination for the 1993 anthem, “Ruffneck.” The 2003 single “Ride Wit Me” also received a BET award nomination for
Best Female rap performance.
MC Lyte has starred in several TV sitcoms, dramas and feature films, including the WB’s “For Your Love” and UPN’s “Half & Half.”
It’s been an incredible ride for MC Lyte! To date, she has released 10 albums, nine greatest hits. Lyte shows no signs of slowing down on the music, literary, film or television scenes. Lyte is also very active in many social projects, involving herself in antiviolence campaigns, Rock the Vote, and contributing her time and expertise to several nonprofit organizations.
