The following are terms that are commonly used within the gay community. These are not OFFICIAL gay terms. Just the ones we hear from those inside the gay community. Some of these terms know no sexuality and can apply to just about anyone.
Basher: Also known as homophobe. A basher is someone who either physically or verbally assaults a gay or lesbian simply for the fact that they are gay or lesbian.
Butch-Queen: A gay man who looks straight but is actually quite feminine behind closed doors.
Closet Case: Refers to someone who is (usually gay) in the closet/not admitting to their sexuality.
Cocktail: Usually refers to gay men talking about interesting sex with another male.
Coming Out: The term used to describe when a person "comes out of the closet." Coming out involves telling those people around you such as family/friends that you are a gay or lesbian.
D.L.: Usually refers to a married man or man dating a woman who also sleeps with men.
Drag Queen: A gay man who has way too much fashion sense for one gender. A man who dresses up as a woman. Usually this person performs in clubs lip-synching or singing.
Drama Queen: Someone who takes a simple problem and turns it into the next reason for World War. Usually these problems revolve around them.
Dyke: A Lesbian. Used within the gay community usually in a joking manner.
Fag: A homosexual. Used within the gay community usually in a joking manner.
FagHag: A heterosexual female who surrounds herself with gay men as friends.
Family: The code word meaning a person is gay or lesbian.
Flame: Also called a FLAMING QUEEN. A gay man who is outrageous in his feminine characteristics both in private and in public.
GayDar: Internal radar specific to gay people to know who else is gay.
Gurl: In the gay community it is used to signify a gay man.
Lipstick Dyke: Slang word used to describe a very feminine lesbian (one who tends to always wear make-up and feminine clothing)
Mary: A name used by gay men with one another. Used as a substitution for someone's real name.
Queen: Reference can mean the person is bitchy. Can be used despairingly to simply state that someone is feminine.
Size Queen: Someone who judges a man by the size of his endowment.
Spill-the-tea: In the gay community it is used to dish the dirt or gossip.
Top: A sexual position. The person assumes the dominant position during sexual activity
Trade: A masculine, hard-core looking man who is actually gay.
