Patti LaBelle
Patti LaBelle, 63, first hit the charts in 1962 with the Bluebells. With LaBelle, her second group, became the first African-American contemporary act to perform at the Metropolitan Opera House in 1974. In 1993, LaBelle became the first, and one of the few, recording artists to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame thanks to a petition by her legion of fans.
