Posted Oct. 3, 2007 – A judge set a $2 million bond Tuesday for a 22-year-old Black Cleveland woman accused of drowning her two baby daughters in a bathtub.
Amber Hill, 22, did not enter a plea in court, but she cried openly as the prosecutor requested the bail amount, The Associated Press reports. She’s charged with two counts of aggravated murder for allegedly drowning Jannelle Cintron, 4, and Cecess Hill 2, in her apartment on Monday.
"The victims, being 4 and 2 years of age, represent perhaps the most vulnerable in our society. They deserved the right to be protected," prosecutor Gayle Williams said during the hearing.
After drowning her daughters, Hill called the girls’ father and told them that they “are at peace,” according to police.
After arriving home, 23-year-old Jamie Cintron, the father, said he found the girls in the bathtub.
“They [were] just innocent little girls,” Cintron told WOIO-TV. “They [were] happy girls. All they wanted was love. That’s all I tried to give them, love, attention, tried to teach them. They loved daddy. They loved mommy. They loved everybody... . She had no reason to take their lives," he said. "They (didn't) do nothing to deserve this."
Hill had no history of abusing the girls, but she said she suffered abuse at the hands of Jamie Cintron, AP reports.
Court records show that Cintron was found guilty of domestic violence against Hill in 2004 and 2006. As a result, he was ordered to take a parenting class and only allowed to see his children with another person around.
Hill, who was studying to be a medical assistant, reportedly had no criminal record before this incident.
At the hearing, the judge also suggested that Hill receive medical and psychological treatment.
