Freestyle Friday will return Feb. 22 and it's bigger and better than ever! Calling all rappers with original material; imitators need not apply! Get ready to vote your favorites into the championship.
Entry Rules
106 & Park (the “Program”) will be revamping its Freestyle Friday Competition (the “Competition”). For the first time ever, BET viewers will vote for the Freestyle Friday Champion. To enter the Competition, send an e-mail to audience106@bet.com and include your full name, address, telephone number(s), along with a photograph (featuring you only).
Show Element Breakdown
Every Friday for fifteen (15) weeks, two (2) unsigned rappers will each compete in a single round and have a maximum of one minute & :10 seconds (1:10) to perform their original song. Weekly judges, selected at BET’s sole discretion, will comment on the performances and determine, in their sole discretion, which rapper will advance to one (1) of the fifteen (15) slots in the All Star Bracket. The judges’ decision is final and binding. At the end of the show after each weekly battle, the viewers at home can log on to www.bet.com/106andpark and cast their vote on who they thought should have won. If the loser has more cumulative votes than the winner who was selected by the judges, he/she will be placed in the Wild Card pool and may be selected by BET, in its sole discretion, to come back for a second chance to battle for the Wild Card slot in the All Star Bracket.
Once all sixteen (16) slots of the All Star Bracket are full, we will start the final rounds. In each round of the All Star Bracket, BET will feature a different producer’s beat which will be given ahead of time to both rappers so that they can each create a new original song which they will perform. Winners will advance and losers are eliminated with no chance of returning.
Performances will be posted on www.bet.com/106andpark for viewers to vote. BET viewers will vote for the Freestyle Friday Champion only in the Championship Round. The voting poll will open Friday immediately following the Program telecast and will remain open for one (1) week. The winner with the most cumulative votes will be the 106 & Park Freestyle Friday Champion and will win a single record deal with Koch Records.
*Please be advised that BET reserves the right to reschedule the Competition in the event the following occurs: (1) broadcast pre-emption of the Program, (2) Holiday, or (3) production hiatus. In addition, BET reserves the right to match up the MCs in the All Star Bracket.
PARTICIPATION RULES AND REQUIREMENTS
The following eligibility requirements must be met in order to participate in the competition:
1) You must be at least eighteen (18) years of age or older, a legal resident of the United States, and currently not contractually bound with any record label or management company;
2) You must be willing and able to travel to and from New York City, at your own expense, to appear on BET’s 106 & Park to compete;
3) Your freestyle must be 100% original material and shall not infringe upon any third party copyrights, trademarks, or other intellectual property rights nor shall it contain any curse words, sexually explicit lyrics or mock, ridicule, or disparage BET Networks or programming services (the “Material”);
4) You cannot sign any recording deals for the duration of the Competition plus two (2) months thereafter; and
5) BET has no obligation to you whatsoever except as specified herein. Without in any way limiting the foregoing, you acknowledge and agree that BET is under no obligation to select you to participate in the Competition or to include your participation in any BET show and/or promotion.
Note: By participating in this Competition, you acknowledge and agree that even if you are not selected to advance in the Competition, BET shall have the right to use your name, photograph, likeness, biographical information and Material in any manner or media whatsoever throughout the world in perpetuity without any further consideration to you. Please be advised that in no event will BET have liability for the manner in which the Material is used or any claims resulting from the use by BET nor shall BET be liable for any claims resulting in your travel to and from the show taping(s).
