Updated, January 2, 2009 - Tune in Sunday at 2 p.m. (ET/PT) for this extraordinary film based on the novel by Alice Walker.  Nominated for 11 Academy Awards, “The Color Purple,” has been described as “a classic example of great cinema at its best.”

This epic drama follows the life of Celie Johnson (Whoopi Goldberg) as she struggles through life in the early 1900s.  As the daughter of a sharecropper in rural Georgia, she fights to overcome poverty, adversity, incest and a marriage to a brutal husband.   During a period that spans nearly 40 years, eventually, Celie finds the courage to prevail.

All-star cast includes: Danny Glover, Whoopi Goldberg, Margaret Avery, Oprah Winfrey, Willard E. Pugh, Adolph Caesar and Rae Dawn Chong.
