Posted Dec. 7, 2007 - Crystal Aikin, the winner of BET's "Sunday Best" competition answered your questions! Read below to find out what her next step is, how she felt about the competition and more! Plus, she sent a special message for BET.comers. Read the interview.

BET.comer lamonte_10: Hey, Crystal. My name is Derrick, and me and my girlfriend watched U on this show every night, and your singing made her wanna go back to church and me too. We thank U.

Crystal: I don’t sing for myself at all. Before I get on stage, I pray. I believe there’s something on my voice that causes deliverance and healing. When I hear a report that someone wants to go back to church, I know that I’m blessing God and blessing someone else. God is really working. Wow. I’m excited for you. That has made my spirit jump.

BET.comer chsnfour: Did you ever think you would make it this far?

Crystal: I was not really for sure. I believe the judges saw something in me. There is a gift of power on my voice. That doesn’t mean this competition was for me. So, I can’t say I knew I’d make it all the way, but I hoped.

BET.comer sandiowens: I just wanna know. Can a sista’ get a ride to Walmart in the new Camry? LOL. Crystal, you know we love you. See you when you get back.

Crystal: When I get home I’m going to be able to sit down in a nice Camry.

BET.comer jazeepoet: I knew from the moment you auditioned you would be Sunday Best. You are truly blessed. Congratulations! My question is: Have you written any songs and will any of them be on your album?

Crystal: I do write, but I haven’t been writing a lot. We didn’t write anything on the program. Those songs were given to us, but we were given the freedom to create in the songs and give them our own personality.

BET.comer snoopy76: Will any of the songs you performed on the show be on your album?

Crystal: I am believing that the songs on the CD will be all new original songs. There may possibly be a few from the show, but I’m not for sure. After singing “Optimistic,” I fell in love with that song.

BET.comer 76543210: When did you k now you were called to minister in song?

Crystal: I knew that I was called to minister. I’ve been singing since I was a kid back in church. I’d have to say maybe around 25-ish. I’m 32 now. I recognized there was a gift … maybe around 21, 22, 23. I was directing a choir. I had a gift of song and directing. I was drawing the young people. I recognized lives were being changed through song.

BET.comer 76543210: How did you keep your voice so strong during the competition?

Crystal: You can do a lot of different things, but staying hydrated and giving your voice rest by not talking are the two things I do. Typically if I’m rested, my voice stays hydrated and restored.

BET.comer adammillionare: Where did you get the dress worn when you sang your finale song?

Crystal: It was “as is,” except the arms. The arms were made sheer. Our wardrobe designer put the gold tassels on it. That was a done deal.

  • crystal aiken i must admit i'm not a christian but i have always had a feeling unexplainable when i listen to gospel music.after high school i lost my hope that there is a god.ive been lost for so long time and when i heard your voice i felt an energy come over me and i had to get on both knees and pray for the 1st time in 5 years.i feel like that was my first step to not be afraid to have hope and have faith and i hope and have faith in knowing that i can continue to find strength and confidence in your marvelous music and voice.love u gurl keep bringing out the message.

  • i believe that everything happens for a reason, just maybe god used this platform to deliver lindsay (shari's daughter) from whatever situation she is in. seeing she was there last night. there is a special anointing on shari as well as crystal, but for me and my house, shari ministered to us in a way, as a children of god, we felt down to the very souls of our feet. by shari's singing, we believe someone was healed, delivered and set free. to god be the glory!
