Every now and then, someone new comes along with a fresh perspective, hitting the scene to breathe life into the status quo. A visionary with a keen ability for leadership best describes Gerard Henry. His primary goal is to "motivate people to use their gifts to bring honor and glory to God."
Gerard Henry is the creator and host of the highly rated Black Entertainment Television, Inc. (BET) Gospel music video show, Lift Every Voice, featuring up-close-and-personal interviews with leading gospel artists, ministers and athletes (reaching almost 1 million viewers weekly). Early on, Gerard’s delivery and appeal netted thousands of new viewers weekly. BET responded by expanding the program from 30 minutes to an hour. In its fifth season, Gerard’s show is among the network's most well-received programs – gospel or otherwise.
Henry has a zeal for sharing the gospel of Christ. He says, “One of my primary goals is to motivate people to use their gifts to bring honor and glory to God.” He believes that his active participation in both secular and non-secular arenas will enable him to “build a platform for Jesus Christ.” In addition to his work with BET, Henry is also a motivational speaker, addressing various topics including abstinence, prayer and humility.
Henry is considered a visionary by many of his peers. While a freshman at the University of Maryland in 1990, he created the Brothers and Sisters of Love Christian Fellowship. Through this ministry, he was instrumental in the growth of a Bible study group from five members to an influential assembly of 50 students. Henry was inspired to start a campus ministry because “…[T]he need [for God] wasn’t being met within the Black student community.” He later served as national student board president of New Generation Campus Ministries, a national student movement emphasizing Christ-centered leadership development.
In addition to hosting, “Lift Every Voice,” Henry serves as the national spokesman for Global Outreach Campus Ministries (www.gocm.org). Henry is compelled to inspire college students to pursue their dreams and watch God exceed their expectations. He also plans to produce a variety of media that will appeal to all types of audiences. Henry offers a dynamic delivery and is a man of character who walks in integrity, influencing people to live an abundant life in the Lord.
A published author, inspirational speaker, and native of Teaneck, N.J., Gerard earned a B.A. in radio-TV-film, at the University of Maryland, where he graduated with honors. Gerard, his wife Terry; daughter Baylor Leanne, and son Benjamin Jeremiah, reside in Atlanta. Henry recently completed his second book, Voices of Inspiration (new motivational and spiritual reflections from some of today’s most inspiring voices: Bishop Eddie Long, CeCe Winans, Allan Houston, and Billy Blanks, published by BET Books, in stores wherever books can be found). Henry’s first book Sex at its Best: Going A.W.O.L. (Abstinence Without Lust) is available on his Web site www.gerardhenry.com).”
