Job Summary

BET, the nation’s leading television network providing quality entertainment, music, news and public affairs programming for the African-American audience, is searching for a Senior Director of Tax and Treasury to join our highly successful entertainment company. S/he should have a strong skill set in both tax and treasury and the ability to lead a team.

The Senior Director of Tax and Treasury will report to the CFO and be based in Washington, DC.  S/he will be responsible for all aspects of tax compliance and planning; cash management including forecasting and optimizing cash; managing banking relationships; credit and collections; and investments.  S/he will have 10 years of solid finance experience.

Responsibilities

Treasury:

·   Update and improve short and longer term cash forecasting models;

·   Forecast, monitor and manage cash flow;

·   Supervise the credit and collections team;

·   Work closely with sales management to resolve collection issues;

·   Monthly travel, as required, to meet with advertising agencies if needed.

Tax:

·   Prepare required federal and state tax packages;

·   Prepare sales and use tax and unclaimed property returns;

·   Liaise with auditors and corporate tax;

·   Identify and implement tax planning opportunities;

·   Analyze and communicate impact of new developments in tax laws, regulations, rulings, procedures and court decisions;

·   Oversee 401K plan and periodically evaluate vendor;

·   Partner with parent company, Viacom, to ensure best practices;

·   Work load will increase during peak time periods at quarter and year end for tax preparation.

Management:

·   Manage team of five collectors and two tax/treasury staff;

·   Manage a staff that oversees administration of 401K;

·   Oversee staff development and career planning focus is important for this area.

Qualifications

·   A minimum of 10 years of corporate accounting and/or tax accounting experience.

·   Prior management experience required.

·   Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills. 

·   Ability to communicate well and be able to successfully work with a diverse group of senior operating and finance executives; each with individual operating styles, business strategies and goals, and unique issues.

·   Exceptional time management and organizational skills.

·   Strong project management skills; the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and initiatives, and skills in identifying, analyzing and resolving problems.

·   Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Suite, especially Microsoft Excel and/or Access, and extensive experience in various accounting and financial management software. 

·   Action-oriented and skilled in taking a position on important issues.

·   Solid leadership skills; a self-starter with a sense of urgency.

·   Strong analytical skills and an understanding of the nuances and trends of the cable industry.

·   Collaborative decision maker with the skills to effectively manage up, down and laterally.

·   Works effectively under stress within a variety of situations and with various individuals or groups.

·   Demonstrated leadership ability; leads by example - approachable, perceivable, charismatic and people want to follow their lead.

·   Superb judgment, sound business disciplines and strategic thinking capability.

·   Identifies problems, secures relevant information and identifies possible causes and solutions that anticipate short and long-term business demands.

Education

A bachelor’s degree in accounting is required; a CPA is preferred.
