Sunday, June 28th at 8 PM/7c

Make way for the biggest night in entertainment. It doesn’t get any better than the BET Awards, and there’s no brighter star on the planet than Jamie Foxx, this year's host. You better recognize!

Hollywood’s ultimate triple threat is commanding the 2009 BET Awards stage. Jamie Foxx is at the top of his game as an Oscar-winning actor and box office champ; chart-topping, platinum-selling R&B artist; and world-class comedian. Anything can happen when the “Unpredictable” entertainer takes over! It’s an evening you won’t want to miss.

Recognize greatness! Who will walk away with the “Best New Artist” award? Who is the “Best Athlete”? Will your favorite be named "Best Actress"? Find out at this year’s BET Awards, the nonstop party, where the biggest artists and trailblazers all gather under one roof to celebrate the achievements of the most influential African Americans in music, acting, sports and entertainment. From the red carpet to the post-show wrap-up, it is the ultimate evening among the stars. It’s Black star power at its finest!

“106 & Park” sets it off right with the BET Awards Pre-Show. Terrence and Rocsi are coming to you from the main stage where they'll host the lively jump-off of the coolest performances and interviews. Working the red carpet is the lovely Toccara, dazzling among the who's who of fashion-forward stars.

Then recognize the performances! The 2009 BET Awards is where the hottest artists in hip hop, R&B and gospel pull out all the stops, bringing the year’s favorite chart-topping hits to the BET stage.

With a "Blueprint" to superstardom that began on the block in Brooklyn, Jay-Z will make his way to the BET Awards stage this year in a performance that promises to be nothing short of epic. Keeping the New York vibe strong is Fabolous, who will also shine onstage this year as he celebrates his newest offering, "Loso's Way."

Maxwell is back to reclaim his place among the neo-soul elite with the year’s most highly-anticipated performance. The fiercest diva in the game, Beyonce, is always a showstopper and she’s back this year for her sixth BET Awards performance. Ne-Yo never disappoints with intricate moves to match his massive hits, and he will feature a very special dancer in his live performance.

The night simply would not be complete without a word of praise! Who better to bring the audience to its feet than contemporary gospel's dynamic duo, Mary Mary. And Soulja Boy will be in full swag mode as he storms the BET Awards stage for the first time.

Of course, the BET Awards would not be complete without a rousing Lifetime Achievement tribute. This year, BET will recognize the musical legacy and decades of hits from the legendary soul trio, The O’Jays, who will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Also to be honored are Alicia Keys and Wyclef Jean, two of the industry's most talented musicians and generous philanthropists. Both will receive this year's Humanitarian Award for their respective charitable work.

You won't want to miss the parade of stars who will join the evening as presenters. Solange Knowles, Idris Elba, Paula Patton, Queen Latifah, Taraji P. Henson and Sherri Shepherd are just a few of the big names you can expect to see.

The party doesn't stop after the main event. The Post-Show special, hosted by Queen Latifah, recaps the most memorable moments of the night and captures interviews with all the stars and big winners. You never know who will come through this live after-party.

This year, the spotlight is on the viewers! One lucky fan will be selected on BET.com as BET’s “Ultimate Fan.” The winner and a friend will be our guest at the BET Awards and given the A-List, VIP treatment with a glammed out stroll down the red carpet and a once-in-a-lifetime shot at presenting the Viewers’ Choice award live on TV.

BET is also recognizing a select set of tastemakers who have their fingers on the pulse of what’s hot. The BET Awards Voting Academy will hand-pick 75 fans, who live and breathe all things Black entertainment, to help decide the award winners in categories like “Best Hip Hop Artist” and “Best New Artist.” The exclusive members of the Voting Academy will make history as the first-ever group of industry outsiders to help call the shots, and will be featured on BET.com.

Who’s got the moves? Bring it to the Awards recognizes the dancer with enough swag to shut down the stage! Upload a video and win a chance to dance alongside Ne-Yo during his BET Awards performance.

After the show, viewers have one last chance to be heard. Which performer ripped it? BET.com is the place to vote on the night’s best performance in the Rock the Mic poll.

Tune in to the 2009 BET Awards, Sunday, June 28th at 8 PM/7c.

Recognize excellence!

i kinda did enjoy the bet awards but i felt a little let down because i was exspecting it to be just really great and it wasnt. odnt get me wrong it was okay but it could have been better. i think ne-yo did a wonderful job...jamie fox had fun and i enjoyed him. i think that there could have been a better pick of songs to do for michael jackson because remember we were all in mourning but we must rejoice his excellence so it should have been more entertaining so that alot of us wouldnt be sad. and im really upset that chris brown couldnt perform i think he would have gave the best tribute bein

the tribute to michael jackson was wonderful. i just think that some one needs to let beyonce know that her tribute was not appealing at all. i was not understanding how she could not even mention michael jackson name, before dedicating a song in his honor. i am not one of those beyonce haters, i just did not get what she was wearing and her performance was awlful. beyonce, needs to be told by bet that you are a role model to younger women and her bra and panties attire needs to be laid to rest. i no that michael jackson was a fan of classical music but beyonce did not give tribute to the lega

cont..africans in america. why not a bio show on the many accomplishments of positive people, (black & white), why not a careers show on how to become a doctor, lawyer, marketing rep...viacom would not have that. sell the station to earl graves and get positive. i have at least three ideas for programming on your channel and you would still have the ratings with better high paying advertisers. i can help you need it!

viacom and cbs own bet and this is a reflection of how america sees africans in america...blame it on the alcohol....b.e.t. yes, you blew it, and now i understand why bet, viacom and cbs feels it has to keep it real with "pants sagging, disrespect to women and intoxication.”keeping it real compared to what!!!! this is what viacom wanted... now is the time for this channel to redeem it self, to introduce programming in regards to our children becoming more than what was presented on stage. since this channel was introduced in 1980 there has never been a program reflecting positive africans in a

some people will never grow ! i liked jimme fox until i heard him the other night,[we own him hes ours] i guess we own paul maccartney, dam, he sounded stupid,mj was an intelligent talent, he didnt talk in color, like the world owed him anything.nobody gets in the way of intelligent people, and the hard work it takes for him-/them to get there! "makes no difference if your black or white!" hum,who said that,... al sharpton,i dont think so ,mj was one incredible talented humble human being.he new what life was for.finding peace some day..thats the lesson. everlasting real lov

jamie foxx was awful. he needs to stick with singing and acting. horrible job. neyo was great. the other gangsters should have stayed home and let a real tribute to mj take place.

i henceforth will boycott bet because as a person of african descent and woman and advocate for justice, this station fails time and time again to show the complexity of the black diaspora. time and time again, this program chooses to televise to a generally young audience of color images that degrade them (us) and simply do not represent the beauty, diversity, and strength of our community. yet again, i must say, shame on you, bet executives/producers/financiers. shame on you.

ciara, a talented dancer with much weaker vocal skills, chose to sing a ballad rather than dance? and what did the various references to baby boy have to do with anything? rather, where was prince, stevie, smokey, the roots, aretha, common, sade, quincy . . . ? i have no idea whether they wanted to be associated with the show but this is the caliber of artist who should have been on that stage. my low regard for bet sank further upon seeing the reasonably good tribute to the o’jays, making it even more apparent what possibilities existed for a meaningful tribute to michael.

none of these artists had in their arsenal a bag of tricks to pull out when called upon to pay homage to this man who supposedly changed their life. chaka khan presented an award, but souljah boy performed a song about nothing? chris brown did not perform, but lil wayne and drake can sing about having sex with various women while children dance seductively behind them (note: in year’s past, bet has ignored the alleged but commonly known indiscretions of r kelly, james brown . . .)?

all of these artists who proclaim to have been inspired vocally, through dance and presentation, as well as in fashion, by michael could not sing one of his songs; dance even 8 counts of his choreography; say something unscripted and substantive about his impact upon them. it is because very few of today’s living artists, at least those who get the record deals and are aired on stations like bet, are talented.

on the red carpet, diddy, who is not my favorite person in the world for reasons irrelevant to this post, rebuked cnn and other media outlets for not giving due respect to michael’s contribution. unfortunately, bet is no better, no different than other programming, despite the power it could exhibit if it were a network truly by and for black people. recognizing that the regularly scheduled awards program transformed into a tribute upon michael’s untimely death, it’s hard to fathom that this was the best bet could do with such short notice.

i tuned into the bet awards last sunday because i assumed that bet would do the one thing it does well-pay tribute to artists who have shaped american (and sometimes world) culture. instead, i lost more than three hours of my life watching nationally televised ignorance. i recognize that jamie foxx is a multi-faceted artist (singer, actor, comedian), but he was a horrible host of that awards program. his jokes made a caricature of michael jackson, who undoubtedly was a complex and important human being.

yes, i did see it on it's encore night and in my opinion it was disappointing!!! jamie saying in the microphone, we back on we back on inappropiate gestures... with all that talent in that place; why could no one come up with a spectacular tribute? what kind of salute/tribute when your pants falling off your hips! yall know mike put it on the map for black entertainers! next year get a new host

i caught a little of the bet awards show. i heard jamie foxx kept plugging his album and upcoming concerts ad nauseum. and his attempt at a prop. 8 joke was not funny and insulting, especially to every gay citizen of california, including members of the gay black community, (including some very famous black performers and presenters who i will not name at this time) who lost their equal marriage rights when this shameful proposition passed. my advice to bet. find another host for next year. at least you didn't invite the jenna six onstage again.

i love the old school,ne-yo, jamie, maxwell & keri.young money was a disgrace from the underware showing to singing that disrespectful song with their lil girls on stage. that was their tribute to mj?! beyonce was garbage. i love jay and i am long time fan of his music but it was wrong for him to keep chris brown off of the show and bet as well.it wasn't that long ago that jay had some legal issues with stabbing un. mj had legal issues too, but it wasn't about that it was to pay tribute to michael jackson. i would have loved to chris brown get to pay tribute to his icon. let he who is without

respectfully, i say that i could not finish watching the awards show. enjoyed foxx's personal performance but not so much as a host. although he kept it real, it was very amateurish. felt that this was a sober occasion and some tributes were just thrown together. still appreciate the effort. our continued prayers and support are with the jackson family.
