Article Text

BET Networks deeply regrets the performance by Young Money at the BET AWARDS ’09 (featuring Lil Wayne, Drake, Gudda Gudda and Mack Maine). Elements of the performance were unplanned and should not have happened.

We value and appreciate the feedback from our viewers and have edited Young Money’s performance for all BET AWARDS ’09 encore presentations.

first off. you either give all or nothing. we understand bet had three days to prepare for the show. so why not go on with the original plans and then give mj the respect and honor he deserves at a later time. to even mention his name with this awards show was a discrace to any race. we have drug dealers and woman beaters performing, but chris brown got cut. jay z was by far the worse performance of the night followed by his wife. i see why bill cosby, oprah, eddie murphy, and even michael jackson (except to honor james brown) ever showed up at any of these awards frequently. second the tv show

i do however, want to address the whole chris brown - jay z drama. i'm not happy with how bet handled this one. one "rumor" is that jay-z said that if chris performs than he would not perform. i understand jay being a business person and all but that was a punk a&$ move (if this is true). i'm an old skool jay fan, i perfer old skool jay over today's jay. bet should get rid of the person who chose jay-z as a performer over chris brown. chris would've made the show a hell of a lot more exciting. the other rumor is that bet executives, producers decided to pull chris's performance due to him plea

July 8, 2009

first of all the performance by yung money should not suprise anyone. if we can play songs like birthday sex on 106 & park there should not be a shock of lil wayne and his crew performing. we don't edit songs like birthday sex and we certainly do not stop it from playin. so there shouldn't be any confusion to that situation. and for the executives not to know that that was going on is poor judgment on their part, i mean it's not like these artists just go up on stage and perform anything they want. i'm sure they have to clear it up with the executives on bet.

now that i am done critiquing, i will say that the o'jays tribute and their performance was stellar. maxwell was lovely. the 90s r&b performances were great with the exception on aaron hall being hoarse. keyshia cole and monica was beautiful. jay-z was cool. ne-yo touched hearts with his micheal jackson tribute. i liked keri hilson's performance. it was cute. it was not all bad. just wasn't a proper tribute to mj and how could you get it done in 3 days. it's unfair for us to judge, but we do have opinions.

the show was an embarrassement and should never have been promoted as an tribute to michael jackson. the heart and intention was in the right, but for michael jackson, you should have taken your time and done it right. now that the memorial was executed flawlessly, it just confirm the bigots thoughts: white can do it better than black folks

whe i heard that michael jackson has died, i knew the bet awards 09 wasn't going to be what i expected. i understand that they had to change yheir whole show. it was still good but with jamie as the host it was supposed to be off the hook funny but it was more of a tribute show to michael than an awards show. i think that they should have just had a few people perform sime of his songs and then later do a segment show remembering michael jackson with his own show i think he deserved that and all that bet has done in remembering him already. bet is doing a great job.

i was dissapointed with the performance of young money. for such a show it was not needed. jamie foxx tried but he was too impromptu he needed to be more scripted or followed the teleprompter more. at times his comments were embarrassing.yes mj was ours but he was more than ours. where were we when he went through his trials? i know that we have better quality entertainers than those featured on the show. hats off to alicia keyes and wyclef, i pray that others will take note. the best performance was the tribute to the o jays. that was excellent and the music was dead on. thanks for what

everyone that keeps pointing out the fact that they only had a few days to prepare, let me tell you something, debra lee stated from her own mouth that they were turning the whole show around to be a tribute to michael jackson. thats what she said on behalf of bet okay. so instead of waiting a few weeks and making the necessary preparations to have a more planned tribute for him they capitalized on the fact that millions of people were gonna be tuning in to see what they were gonna do for him on their awards show. so please stop trying to make excuses for them because guess what its not workin

i liked the show especially since it had to rearrange with the death of michael. i missed the first hour, but the rest of the show was enjoyable. it was nice to see kieth sweat, guy, johnny gill...i was excited..i love what janet jackson had to say about her brother. ciara can't sing, why didn't they ask chrissette michele to sing that song? beyonce, did a great job, but i am tired of her hair, her look is tiring. i am so proud of alicia keys and wyclef, doing positive things. they could have had a better ending...who is drake? did jay z really have to be there?

i know things changed quickly for the staff but to be honest, i think a lot of it was not properly honoring michael. people are quick to criticize someone when they make a mistake and they want to judge and with that said, chris brown would have done a great job representing mike. chris has taken responsibility for his actions. he is a young man and we as older people (jay z, whom i am a big fan) should take them under our wings and be an example to them to help them learn from their mistakes. chris deserves another chance and because of the way we like to keep one another down, chris was not

bet did a sad job, even though time constraints were upon them, the tribute to mj was off target by a long shot. chris brown should have performed, along with usher, they really could have done some justice. the chosen performers were not a great pick and jamie foxx was not a good host for this event. for all mj has given to black music, this was the best bet could give to salute the king of pop...a disgrace.

im sorry ahead of time, but this was complete trash. bet needs to apologize for this award show and how extremely disrespectful this "tribute" was to michael jackson and his family. jamie foxx and lil wayne both need to make pubic apologies as well. when they played the race card, i was seriously sick to? my stomach. michael jackson had a global impact on so many people, no matter what color they are. this was a huge disgrace.
