Cardi B Vents Fears Surrounding New Album Amid Support from Missy Elliott

The "WAP" rapper is gearing up to drop her highly-anticipated sophomore album later this year.

Cardi B still has major jitters about her upcoming album.

In 2018, the "Be Careful" hitmaker released her debut album, "Invasion of Privacy," which garnered much acclaim. As she prepares to release her sophomore album, Cardi is really feeling the pressure. Last week, she took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to discuss her anxieties about her new project.

"6 years ago I released my first album and it broke so many records GAH LEE!!," she said on the platform. "6 years later I’m preparing to drop the next one this year..it’s so different from what everyone is expecting and I’m sooo excited."

The rapper also said she's "been so busy these last few days and "appreciates the "support" from her fans.

In addition to fans, Cardi's journey has resonated with hip-hop legend Missy Elliott, who offered her some words of encouragement.

"Absolutely yes it’s the time to experiment take it from someone who experimented and many others which allowed them to NOT be BOXED in to one sound and style…," she replied to Cardi in a message on the app. "I can name tons who each of their albums sounded nothing like the one before."

"Yeup!!! I’m a little nervous… but I don’t care!," Cardi added. "I’m liking doing things that my ears want to listen to and reflecting the moods I been in. It feels good."

Last month, Cardi revealed on The Complex series "360 with Speedy" that she "lost herself" and was scared to drop new music due to fear of being judged.

"I just feel like I lost myself with everything, you know, like, a lot of music commenters and everything and a lot of people just be like, you know, ‘She's afraid to drop an album, she’s afraid to drop music,’" Cardi explained. "Last year, I barely dropped music. It’s just like I was just afraid to do everything."

The interview wrapped with a tease of her upcoming album.

"My next announcement will not be like a single, type s - - t. It will be my album cover," she said. "One single, and y'all getting the album. And then it's happening."
