Summer Walker Named ‘2023 ASCAP Women Behind The Music’ Honoree
The ASCAP Rhythm & Soul department has announced Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter Summer Walker as one of the 2023 ASCAP Women Behind The Music award recipients.
The ASCAP Rhythm & Soul department’s annual event “recognizes inspiring women in the music community, honoring songwriters, artists, and executives, including managers, attorneys, label executives, and music publishers.”
The “White Tee” singer joins LVRN Executive Vice President, General Manager Amber Grimes, and Atlantic Records Senior Director of A&R Sammye Scott as this year’s top honorees. The 15th annual ceremony will take place on Thursday, Nov. 16, in Atlanta.
"It is an honor to receive this award amongst such incredible and influential women in this industry," said Walker in an exclusive statement to BET.com. "I am especially proud to receive this award alongside Amber Grimes, EVP/GM of LVRN.”
When asked who are the female artists who inspire her most, Walker responds, "It’s hard to pick one, but I would say some of my biggest female musician influences include Erykah Badu, Amy Winehouse, and, of course, Beyonce."
Walker recently celebrated the fifth anniversary of her debut mixtape, “Last Day of Summer,” with a special EP, “Girls Need Love (Girls Mix).”

The project features three new remixes of her platinum-selling single of the same name, including guest appearances by her fellow “Soul Train Awards” 2023 nominees Victoria Monét, Tyla and rapper and Chicago-based emcee Tink.
