Look: Paul Ryan Was Dragged on Twitter for Posting a White Washed Photo of Capitol Hill Interns
Paul Ryan, the current Speaker of the House of Representatives, is in many ways the leader and face of the Republican Party. So, a photo he shared on Instagram with hundreds of Capitol Hill interns provided a stark visual to what so many already believe: that the party has a major diversity problem.
There appeared to be not one person of color in the entire group, and Twitter has taken Ryan out to the woodshed over the revealing photo during a time where the Republican Party has become more and more synonymous with racism and bigotry.
It's obvious that Ryan was trying to ramp up excitement as the Republican National Convention quickly approaches, but once again, the Republican Party proved that they are not as concerned with including racial and ethnic minorities as they claim to be.
Ryan took to Instagram on Sunday to post, "I think this sets a record for the most number of #CapitolHill interns in a single selfie." It's a nice picture until you realize that every single person in the photograph is white, shining light on a disturbing truth about who supports, and who is supported by the Republican Party.
Twitter has taken it upon itself to call out Ryan, and the entire Republican party, for the tone-deaf picture and the truths it represents:
SMH. While Ryan was trying to invigorate the party and its young constituents with the post, he instead did the exact opposite with the tell-tale picture. The fact that he didn't notice anything wrong with it before posting is especially disturbing.
