Rudy Giuliani Urges GOP to Approve Loretta Lynch Nomination

Ex-New York City mayor scolds Republicans over slow-moving Senate confirmation.

Rudy Giuliani urged the GOP to confirm Loretta Lynch’s nomination to attorney general, reports the Huffington Post. During a call to the press Friday (March 20), Giuliani named Lynch an “extraordinary” choice and scolded the political gridlock that has “distorted” the “confirmation process.”

"It’s become Republicans torture Democrats, Democrats torture Republicans," he said. “Who started it, God knows. But as a Republican and looking at the Constitution, I find Loretta Lynch not only to be an acceptable appointment, but I find her to be an extraordinary appointment.”

Giuliani noted that he doesn’t always “agree” with President Obama’s view. “But this goes beyond agreement with the president or disagreement with the president,” he said.

Lynch, a Democrat, is set to become the nation’s first female African-American attorney general. Her nomination has been met with GOP opposition since President Obama announced her as Eric Holder’s replacement late last year. Sen. John McCain recently said that “no Republican should vote for her confirmation.”

A vote on a human trafficking bill, unrelated to Lynch, is currently stalling her confirmation.
