Pittsburgh Steelers Quarterback Dwayne Haskins Dead At 24

He was struck and killed by a vehicle Saturday morning (April 9).

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback and Heisman Trophy finalist Dwayne Haskins has reportedly been killed after being struck by a vehicle early Saturday morning (April 9) in South Florida.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Haskins, who was set to turn 25 next month, was training with the AFC North team when he tragically died.

Haskins was expected to compete for the Steelers’ starting QB job with recently-signed QB Mitch Trubisky. Further details surrounding his passing are currently unknown.

Haskins was a college football standout at Ohio State. Starting just one season for the Buckeyes back in 2018, he instantly became one of the best players collegiately, setting Big Ten records and finishing third in Heisman Trophy voting that same year.

During the 2019 NFL Draft, the Washington Football Team selected Haskins with the 15th overall pick, however he struggled through an up-and-down rookie season and was released during his second season in 2020.

A year later, the Steelers signed Haskins, however he didn’t play during the regular season. With the departure of veteran quarterback Ben Roethlesburger, he was vying for the starting job this offseason.

Last month, Haskins posted a picture of himself signing a one-year tender, with the Steelers, which allows players to match offers made by another team. He captioned the post, “Back to work. #HereWeGo #Thankful.”
