Man Who Found Prince's Body Could Face Criminal and Federal Charges

Find out why he's looking at some serious jail time.

Bad news for Andrew Kornfeld, the pre-med student and son of an addiction specialist who found Prince's lifeless body. According to People, he may be subject to criminal charges.

Kornfeld, whose father, Dr. Howard Kornfeld, was hired to treat Prince, could possibly face serious charges for possession of the prescription drug, Suboxone, used primarily to treat opiate addiction.

The drugs, found on Kornfeld's person, were reportedly taken into possession on April 21 by the Carver County Sheriff's office just after he found the legend's body and called 911.

While Dr. Kornfeld was assigned to be Prince's main source of professional care, his son was dispatched to treat the singer as a consultant for his father's California outpatient addiction clinic, Recovery Without Walls. According to Dr. Kornfeld's attorney, William Mauzy, the clinic was hired by Prince's reps to begin emergency treatment on him.

Mauzy believes Korneld should not be charged so harshly as, according to Minnesota's Good Samaritan law, "a person giving aid at the scene of an emergency is not liable for civil damages in any resulting case." Hence, he says Kornfeld should only be granted "statutory immunity" for having the drug without a prescription.

Kornfeld's maximum potential prison sentence could stack up to five years, with an additional $10,000 fine for possession. Also, since he brought the drug across state lines from California to Minnesota, he could also face federal charges.
