Zimmerman's Lawyer: Donations Surged After Arrest

Since returning to jail two days ago, donations streaming into the defense coffers of Trayvon Martin shooter George Zimmerman have spiked.

Since Trayvon Martin shooter George Zimmerman returned to jail just two days ago, the amount of donations streaming into his defense coffers have spiked, ABC News reports.

Although an exact figure has not been released, the news organization says Zimmerman’s attorney Mark O’Mara claims the typical $1,000 per day rate of donations received by the embattled neighborhood watch captain in the past has increased since Zimmerman was ordered back to jail following the revocation of bond.

In addition to the donations, Zimmerman's defense also announced Tuesday it will delay filing a new motion for bond. The team says it will wait to file the motion ahead of a hearing that will be scheduled in “a few weeks.”

Zimmerman's lawyers say of the original $204,000 raised by Zimmerman, nearly $150,000 went toward his legal defense fund, $30,000 was used to move Zimmerman from Sanford, Florida, “to a life in hiding as a defendant in a high-profile court case,” and the remaining $20,000 went toward living expenses.

In addition to those funds, Zimmerman's defense launched an independently managed fund, which has raised more than $37,000 since May.

Despite Zimmerman’s misrepresentation of his finances and information regarding his passport before the court at his first bond hearing, his defense has vowed to fight to have his bond reinstated based on his compliant behavior after his release from prison in April.
