DON'T make generalizations.

Saying “always” and “never” during an argument is the easiest way to get off track. He’ll feel attacked, with good reason — humans are rarely “always” or “never” something — and the natural reaction is to be defensive. If that happens, you can say “bye-bye” to progress.
