The Best News Ever for Fans of Dear White People

Get ready to binge-watch.

If you were a fan of the Justin Simien-directed film Dear White People, then you're in luck as Netflix has given the movie a full series order, Deadline reports.

The series will keep the same name and director, who will write 10 30-minute long episodes. Production will begin later this year with a worldwide debut set for 2017.

For those who have not seen the film, Dear White People follows the lives of a diverse group of students of color going about their lives on the campus of a fictional predominantly white Ivy League university.

The series is in great company production-wise, as it will be backed by Lionsgate Television, which is also behind the Netflix monster Orange Is the New Black.

"Justin [Simien] is a gifted storyteller whose bold, unique vision is perfectly suited to Netflix," said Cindy Holland, Netflix's vice president of original content. "His original film Dear White People announced the arrival of a fresh, creative voice that had everyone talking, and we're excited to have Justin create this new series for our members worldwide."

This is huge news as the film version first started back in 2012 with Simien paying for the concept trailer with his tax refund. It later went on to win the U.S. dramatic special jury award for breakthrough talent at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival.

Watch the director speak on why Tyler Perry's films just aren't for him in the video, above.
