Look: This Black Panther Cast Selfie Is Everything That's Right With the World

We needed this.

The recent wave of police killings, protest marches and viral hashtags have left most of us feeling helpless and hopeless about the state of race relations in our country. We've been craving any shred of positivity, and even small gestures can makea difference. That's why, last night, a simple selfie put a smile on our faces.
The cast of Black Panther, which was finally officially confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con after months of speculation, got together for a group photo at the convention last night, and the single snap spoke a thousand words about diversity in Hollywood, Black pride and more.

Chadwick Boseman, who'll play the title role, along with his castmates Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira and director Ryan Coogler crowded the frame along with Nerdist founder Chris Hardwick, who moderated a panel discussion about the film, for this selfie, joining together as the official cast of the film for the first time:

The image is significant because this is the first Marvel film to ever have an all-Black cast. In fact, it's among the few major studio franchises to have an all-Black cast. Like Ghostbusters did for women, it's an important step for Hollywood to break the narrative that only white male leads can carry mainstream franchises.
Black Twitter has been collectively cheering ever since the photo dropped last night:

A lot is riding on the success of Black Panther, so count us as among the first in line for tickets when the film releases next year.
