Trifling! Some White People Are Pissed They're 'Forced' to Use a Black Character in a Soccer Video Game
Who knew there was racism in the gaming world?
This was learned when the new FIFA '17 video game started causing controversy after gamers criticized EA for including a non-white protagonist at the center of the game's story.
In a new mode to the series called "The Journey," a lead character named Alex Hunter is followed from youth to adulthood, making it to the Premiere League and FA Cup. When his folks are introduced in the story — his grandpa is white — and just by looking at him, fans could tell he identifies as a person of color.
Taking to Twitter, some fans — sarcastically or not — pointed out the noticeable switch in ethnicity:
