Here Are All the Black Actors Who Received Golden Globe Nominations

Awards season is in full effect.

The race to the Oscars is officially on. 
The Golden Globes nomination were announced early this morning, revealing which stars, movies and TV shows have been singled out for distinction this year by the Hollywood Foreign Press association. The Globes is seen as a runway to the Oscar nominations, so now speculation will be rampant as to who might nab the ultimate prize when those nominations are announced next month. 
As for the Golden Globes, thankfully, it's looking like we won't have a repeat of #OscarsSoWhite this year. Lots of Black actors, directors and shows got nods. Keep scrolling to see if your faves made the cut!

On the television side, Emmy winners Courtney B. Vance and Sterling K. Brown were recognized for their roles as opposing lawyers in The People vs. O.J. SimpsonKerry Washington got a Best Actress in a TV Movie or Limited Series for playing Anita Hill in Confirmation, and Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross were nominated once again for Black-ishThandie Newton and Isse Rae each earned their first nod for their roles on breakthrough shows this year — Newton for playing the android Maeve Millay in Westword and Issa Rae for her HBO comedy Insecure.
In the motion picture categories, Moonlight was heavily celebrated, earning nominations for actor Mahershala Ali, director Barry Jenkins and even Best Motion Picture, Drama. Denzel Washington and Viola Davis were each nominated for Fences, while Naomie Harris and Octavia Spencer earned nods for Hidden FiguresStevie Wonder was nominated for Best Song for his Ariana Grande collab "Faith," for the animated film Sing, and Loving stars Ruth Neggaand Joel Edgerton were both recognized for their roles as an interracial couple in the drama.
Negga, who is an Oscar favorite for her performance as Mildred Loving in the drama, issued a statement about her Golden Globe nomination:

“I am profoundly grateful for this recognition… I can’t thank the HFPA enough for their support, this is such an honor. I am humbled to be in the company of all of these extraordinary, talented, and powerful women," she said. "It has been such a gift to share Mildred and Richard Loving’s important story with the world. I share this honor with my partner in the film, Joel Edgerton, our incredible director Jeff Nichols and everyone involved in bringing Loving to life.”

In addition to the Globes nominations, the Critics Choice Awards were held last night in Los Angeles. Mahershala Ali (Moonlight) took home Best Supporting Actor, Viola Davis (Fences) won Best Actress, Donald Glover (Atlanta) was recognized as the Best Actor in a TV Comedy and Thandie Newton (Westworld) as Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
