Look: Prince Harry's Girlfriend Writes an Emotional Essay About Being Biracial
Just when you felt you couldn't get any closer to Suits actress Meghan Markle, guess again. The celebrity lover of Prince Harry just opened up about one of the biggest struggles in her career — and it's not about the paparazzi chasing the couple. Hint: it's more skin deep.
The 35-year old actress penned a very personal essay for Elle UK on how she's "more than 'other'" as a biracial woman in Hollywood. "Morphing from Latina when I was dressed in red, to African-American when in mustard yellow; my closet filled with fashionable frocks to make me look as racially varied as an ’80s Benetton poster," Markle wrote on the difficulties of auditioning while being "ethically ambiguous."
Fortunately for Markle, whose father is white and mother is Black, Suits producers weren't looking for a particular race when casting her starring role as Rachel Zane. "The choices made in these rooms trickle into how viewers see the world, whether they’re aware of it or not. Some households may never have had a Black person in their house as a guest, or someone biracial," Markle wrote. "Well, now there are a lot of us on your TV and in your home with you. And with Suits, specifically, you have Rachel Zane. I couldn’t be prouder of that."
We're proud of you too, Meghan. Keep slaying in all of your beautiful shades. Check out the BET video of Meghan and her new boo Prince Harry showcasing their interracial love above.
