Mary J. Blige Breaks Her Silence on Why She's Divorcing Kendu

The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul reveals when she knew it was over.

Mary J. Blige's divorce from her husband of 12 years, Kendu Isaacs, has been the topic of headlines since the initial announcement last June.

Now, for the first time, the singer is going into deep detail about the moment she realized their marriage was over, choosing radio personality Angie Martinez to share her story with.

Sitting across from Martinez, the "Thick of It" songstress described the exact moment she said to herself, "That's it."

“The overwhelming disrespect,” she said. “You’re too familiar. You’re way too familiar and you’re disrespecting me and I know, I can sense that I’m not what you want anymore, because now you’re starting to throw questions around like, ‘OK, why you don’t cook?’ Well, I haven’t been cooking. ‘Why you don’t wear your hair like this?’ I never wore my hair like this before. What’s up with you? You know?”

She explained that she believed that not only was Isaacs no longer emotionally invested in their marriage, but he was also physically absent, which caused her to take matter into her own hands.

“So, you start to realize that this man doesn’t want you and he’s just gone all the time,” she said. “And you’re by yourself in the relationship when you realize you’re by yourself in the relationship and you’re just through and through it, now it’s time to do some investigating.”

When asked if that’s what she did, she admitted, “A little bit and I was getting things here and there but I had no full proof, but when I got the full proof, I didn’t have to investigate it. It just showed up.”
