'It’s Just Getting Worse’: Listen to the Full, Emotional Interview of Mary J. Blige on Her Divorce From Kendu

Prayers up to the Queen of Hip Hop Soul.

Mary J. Blige recently sat down with radio personality Angie Martinez for a one-on-one interview where she discussed in great detail the intimate details of her divorce from her husband of 12 years, Kendu Isaacs.

In the emotional sit-down, she touched on everything from the magnitude of the proceedings to him not being entitled to any of her profits.

When Martinez asked the "Thick of It" songstress to explain just how bad things have gotten between her and Isaacs, she revealed that it's much worse than expected.

“It’s just getting worse,” she said. “It really is not getting better. It's just more BS, more nonsense, more lies, more denial, more stupidity. I can’t even believe it’s this bad. It should be over by now, but, you know, the games that are being played… It’s because of what’s happening in court. This is why everything is bad.”

According to Mary, her estranged husband has the power to make their divorce proceedings run as smoothly and conflict-free as possible, but his demands are showing otherwise.

“He has the power to make it all go away if he just would stop demanding what he’s demanding,” she said. “That’s not fair to me because he doesn’t deserve what he’s demanding. It’s not fair… Why do I have to pay you, and why do you think you deserve this amount of money? Why do you think you deserve any money? You didn’t make me. You’re not God. So, I have to pay you for being my husband and for being my manager? And you say you helped me. Yeah, you helped, but you didn’t make this career. I was already Mary J. Blige before I even met you."

As for how much he's entitled to receive from the Queen of Hip Hop Soul, Mary says he doesn't deserve a dime of her hard-earned money.

“Why would he be entitled to something?” she said, “Because he’s used to living the way he used to live? Why else would he think he’s entitled to something? Because if you did what you did because you love me and you managed me because you love me and you rock with me as my husband because you love me, why should I have to pay you now?”
