50 Cent on the Moment He Knew ‘Power’ Would Be a Hit

The rapper/actor and the show's producer discuss the new season.

Season 4 of Power just started up and it seems to not be losing any luster with fans of the show.

This season’s premiere, according to Deadline, was the second highest-rated premiere in Starz history (second only to Power’s season 3 premiere) and didn’t disappoint.

50 Cent, along with his producer, Courtney Kemp, recently sat down with BET and explained why he knew his program would be a hit.

“Our audience is extremely passionate,” he said. “They’ll stop, tweet, post a picture to say ‘Don’t call me’ or ‘Don’t call my phone, don’t text me, nothing, I’m watching my show. You know don’t come over here.’ And then starts the thing [of] Power parties start happening – ‘Ayo, come over and we’ll watch it together ‘cause they’re all into it at the same time.”

Fif also detailed why those parties are a blessing and a curse when it comes to ratings.

“It’s a positive and a negative,” he said. “Our numbers aren’t accurately reporting the viewership because the Power parties are taking place where they’re all at someone else’s television… But, we know what’s what and if the Power party ain’t next week, then everybody’s at home watching it. The experience of the party just brought them together.”

Season 4’s premiere episode, “When I Get Out,” aired last Sunday (June 25).  Watch the full interview above.
