Here's Why John Boyega Slammed 'Game of Thrones' and 'Lord of the Rings'

He's not here for it.

The season 7 Game of Thrones premiere had just about everyone tuned in to HBO on Sunday (July 16), and while the show was heavily viewed, it’s not perfect, according to a prominent sci-fi actor.

In a GQ cover story, John Boyega criticized GoT for not representing people of widely different backgrounds.

“There are no Black people in Game of Thrones,” he said. “You don’t see one Black person in Lord of the Rings. I ain’t paying money to always see one type of person on-screen.

“You see different people from different backgrounds, different cultures, every day,” he continued. “Even if you’re a racist, you have to live with that. We can ruffle up some feathers.”

These recent comments come after the 25-year-old star admitted that he used to be stopped for “random checks” at the airport ever time he flew to America, pre fame. Boyega himself has been a trailblazer for diversity in more recent sci-fi films. He played Finn in the 2015 movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
