Not Even ‘Atomic Blonde’ Can Stop ‘Girls Trip’ From Winning

The Flossy Posse had another epic box office moment.

After having an amazing opening weekend, Girls Trip continues to keep the momentum going with another strong week at the box office. Though suffering a minor dip in sales, the film still managed to come out ahead of the Charlize Theron-led action flick Atomic Blonde, securing the No. 3 position.

The celebrated comedy flick, which follows Regina HallQueen LatifahJada Pinkett-Smith and Tiffany Haddish during an epic "no boys allowed" — of sorts — adventure through Essence Festival, grossed $20 million in weekend two, only suffering a 36 percent drop following a massive $30.4 million opening.

The film, which landed in the No. 2 position at the box office during its opening weekend, only slipped down one spot, bested by Dunkirk and The Emoji Movie.

The continued success of Girls Trip shows that R-rated comedies, which, historically, tend to tank at the box office, can defy the odds and Forbes aptly pointed out how the Will Packer and Malcolm D. Lee film did just that.

"Adult women like to see movies where other adult women get to have enjoyable and free-spirited comedic adventures and become closer friends/better people as a result," Forbes contributor Scott Mendelson highlighted when detailing the film's special success. "The world is too grim for women (and humanity in general) at this moment to find much value in a movie where women suffer for our laughs."
