Get Ready: Issa Rae Is About To Make Her Film Debut

The "Insecure" star just signed on for an epic project.

Issa Rae can't stop, won't stop her Hollywood takeover.
After conquering the small screen with her hit HBO series Insecure, the actress and writer is getting ready to bless the big screen. Yep, Issa just signed on for her first-ever movie role... and wait 'til you hear what it is.

According to Variety.com, Issa Rae has joined the coming-of-age drama The Hate U Give, which stars Amandla Stenberg. The Fox 2000 film will be directed by George Tillman Jr. (Soul Food, Barbershop, Notorious) and is based off Angela Thomas’s debut novel of the same name.
The cast is epic, which includes Regina Hall, Russell Hornsby and Common.

Variety.com reports, "Stenberg plays a 16-year-old girl named Starr, who grew up in a poverty-stricken area but now attends a suburban prep school. After she witnesses a police officer shoot her unarmed best friend, she’s torn between her two very different worlds as she tries to speak her truth." In addition, "Rae will play April, the activist that helps Stenberg’s character find her voice and speak up."

The book has a serious following, having spent 22 weeks on the New York Times young adult best-seller list. Sounds like this will be another hit for Issa. Congrats to her and the entire cast!
