Angela Bassett - Though she was by far the first actress considered for the role, in retrospect it's hard to imagine anyone else but Bassett playing Tina Turner. Already a well-known actress when she starred the film, Bassett's career exploded after her Oscar nomination for playing Turner. She went on to star in dozens of memorable films, including How Stella Got Her Groove Back and Waiting to Exhale, and received an Emmy nod for playing Coretta Scott King in Betty and Coretta. Most recently, she made her directorial debut in the 2015 Lifetime biopic Whitney, based on the love story between the late Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown, and has starred in both American Horror Story: Freak Show and Hotel.
