Twenty-nine years ago this weekend marks the anniversary of Spike Lee's classic film Crooklyn, which hit theaters May 13, 1994. Zelda Harris - The child actor scored the role of a lifetime when she was cast as the lead in Lee's semi-autobiographical drama. She followed it up with another project for Lee, playing Ray Allen's little sis in He Got Game, but then dropped out of the business altogether, claiming there weren't enough interesting roles for young Black women at the time. The four-time Emmy winner was a series regular on Desperate Housewives, and maintained a prolific film career that included roles in Love & Basketball, Something New and this year's Best Picture Academy Award winner 12 Years a Slave. Delroy Lindo played patriarch and musician Woody Carmicheal in the film, which marked the second time the actor had worked with Lee. He went on to have a prolific career as a character actor in films and television, starring in such films as Congo, Gone in Sixty Seconds and Get Shorty. In 2020, he starred in another Lee film, Da Five Bloods and in 2022 he was incredible in They Harder They Fall as Bass Reeves, which earned him an NAACP Image Award nomination for outstanding actor. Vondie Curtis-Hall played family relative Uncle Brown. A gifted character actor, he is best known for his regular series role on medical drama Chicago Hope. Curtis-Hall is also a director whose films include Gridlock'd, Waist Deep and Redemption: The Stan 'Tookie' Williams Story, which starred Jamie Foxx. Most recently, he appeared in 2019's Harriet, a biopic on Harriet Tubman and he can currently be seen in the Netflix series The Recruit.
