@ Me Bro: If Drake's 'Views' Lyrics Were Tweets
The general consensus is in: Drake is sticking to the script on his latest album, Views. Maintaining the sound that earned him the current hip-hop throne, the “6 God” has at least proved that consistency is a major key. Lyrics dedicated to women, his beloved city, and his team are still on the menu — and so are subliminals. Seemingly taking aim at everyone from his true opponents to his frenemies, Drizzy managed to weave some not-so-direct messaging into his bars yet again. But what if things weren’t so ambiguous?
Here’s a breakdown of a few of the jabs Drake threw on Views reimagined in tweets addressed to their subjects.
“Weston Road Flows”
Jay Z’s over a decade above Drake’s age limit here and the Toronto kid can never resist a jab at Hov’s age or his marital status. Ever.
“Weston Road Flows”
Drake’s bad blood with Pusha T dates back to as early as 2012, when his Young Money bossman Lil Wayne entered into an exchange with the now-G.O.O.D. Music president. In late 2015, Push dropped a solid project with Darkest Before Dawn, moving a smooth 45,297 and six million streams. Good numbers for anyone except Drake, who’s projected to go nearly platinum in a single week.
"Hype"
Quick math session: Kendrick Lamar was born in 1987. Drake was born in 1986. That equals a one-year difference, right? Word on the street is that Compton and Toronto’s respective MVPs have been sending shots each other's way for quite some time.
"Hype"
Chris Brown is not cool with Drake. Meek Mill is not cool with Drake. But Chris Brown and Meek Mill get along just fine.
“Weston Road Flows”
Another jab at K. Dot, and maybe even a play on the “TDE” name, perhaps?
"U With Me?"
If any woman had Drake lurking in the shadows and sneaking through back doors, it was definitely Rihanna.
“Keep the Family Close”
During his Beats 1 sit-down with Zane Lowe, Drake made it clear that ties have been cut between him and his Young Money cohort. Thanks to his beef with Meek Mill, his “let’s just be friends” relationship with Nicki was tainted by her relationship with the Philly rapper.
"Still Here"
Drake and Tory Lanez don’t exactly have a Canadian brotherhood. This looks like a shot at the notion that his adversary is not actually a native of Toronto, but rather Brampton, a city in Southern Ontario.
