A Member of Bobby Shmurda's GS9 Crew Was Sentenced to 98 Years in Prison

Another one bites the dust.

Rashid “Rasha” Derissant, a member of Bobby Shmurda’s GS9 crew, has been sentenced to 98 to life in prison for murder, attempted murder and conspiracy, among other charges.

Along with Alex “A-Rod” Crandon, the 24-year-old was previously convicted of the February 2013 murder of a 19-year-old rival gang member in Brooklyn. Bridget G. Brennan, New York’s Special Narcotics Prosecutor, announced his sentencing yesterday (May 17).

“The sentence imposed today reflects the terror that the defendant’s crimes instilled in his own community, and wherever else he engaged in wanton violence to settle scores,” Brennan explained in a press release. “It also underscored the value of the lives lost and tragically damaged.”

Specifically, Derissant was convicted on 22 counts including second degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, criminal possession of a weapon and attempted assault. Nineteen other members and associates of GS9 were also named in the same indictment.

Bobby Shmurda, real name Ackquille Pollard, is still awaiting his own trial. He was arrested in December 2014 for conspiracy and other weapons and drug charges, and has been denied bond seven different times. His arrest was in connection with other members of his GS9 gang.
