Now, the country singer’s best friend Selena Gomez is in a bit of a pickle for what she wrote on Twitter Sunday. Gomez came to the defense of her girl on the social media site through a subtweet about the situation Taylor was facing, writing, “There are more important things to talk about… Why can’t people use their voice for something that f**king matters?”
This prompted a Twitter user to respond by saying, “Good question! Why haven’t you or Taylor not said a thing about #BlackLivesMatter or police brutality.”
And that’s when Gomez stepped in it…
“Oh lol so that means if I hashtag something I save lives? No -I could give two f**ks about ‘sides,’" she replied in a now-deleted tweet mentioning the user. "You don’t know what I do.”
The most offensive notion about Selena’s tweet is her reference to “sides.” She’s presumably inferring that supporting the improved social standing of Blacks in America is taking a “side.” It more deeply relays that there are two sides and she hasn’t taken one yet. It also comes off as elitist and reads that anyone using hashtags to bring awareness to a cause is wasting their time.
All of this came after a series of tweets that even had Selena Gomez say at one point, “Truth is last thing we need right now is hate, in any form.” Uhhh… It sounds like someone needs to take their own advice.
