Run That Back: This Week in Music Featuring DJ Khaled, Game and More

Our music staff picks their favorite songs released July 22-July 29.

A lot went down in music this week.

DJ Khaled dropped a monster track on the heels of the release of his long-anticipated album Major Key. "Do You Mind" features Nicki Minaj, Future, Chris Brown and just about everyone else popping right now. It's a major key if you want your summer to pop out and it's perfect for the whip. Listen to it here.

Classic West Coast hip-hop has been revisited quite a lot over the past year and none is a better example of Game's newest track release. "Get High," in a sense, brings you back to the '90s, but stays up-tempo to add a little update to the sound. Listen to it here.

Remy Ma, Mickey Factz and Nipsey Hussle also released music this week. Check out some of our staff favorites below.

Remy Ma – 'My S**t'

So this one dropped this past weekend and I missed out on representing it in last week's column. Remy is on a roll. There are no words really for how quickly she has bounced back into fame following her seven-year absence. But it's all about consistency, really. Once she left prison, she got back in with DJ Khaled, dropped a track, then slapped us all in the face a year later with "All the Way Up." And it didn't stop there. Here, she remixes A Boogie's "My S**t" with artwork that features solid gold feces. COME ON. Only Remy can do that type of s**t. Pun intended. The track is both snarky and braggy, but accented with Remy's slick delivery. She's just magical, really, and it's a blessing to have her back in the forefront. — Kathy Iandoli

JoJo Featuring Wiz Khalifa – 'F**k Apologies'

Finally, I really feel like JoJo has found her footing with a song that's as gritty as it is incredibly catchy. You would think that a line like "f**k apologies" has no melody in its possession but it totally does on this track. I've consistently rooted for JoJo even when I felt her songs were too old for her. Her voice still has me bumping her 2004 debut. The best part of this is that I think I've finally warmed up to the fact that she's grown up now. When my friend played me her remake of "Marvin's Room" a few years back, I all but clutched my pearls. This time around, I'm like, "Yeah, JoJo! You ain't sorry!" — Jon Reyes

Game – 'Get High'

Chuck Taylor is back with the prelude track to his new game Block Wars. "Get High" is a must listen for fans of that '90s West Coast sound that provides the perfect bouncing and clapping backdrop for lowriding and palm trees. For his part, Game's more uptempo flow is always on point. — Jacob Rohn

Rome Fortune Featuring Nessly – 'My First $100,000'

It's been a minute since Rome Fortune released music but it was worth the wait. The Atlanta native dropped "My First $100,000" just before the release of his surprise VVORLDVVIDE PIMPSATION project. Featuring Nessly and produced by Heaven in Stereo, Rome's latest reveals a lot about his personal journey. He has a long way to go, but this is a solid way to introduce people to the new and improved Rome. — Paul Meara

DJ Khaled Featuring Nicki Minaj, Future, Chris Brown, August Alsina, Rick Ross and Jeremih – 'Do You Mind'

DJ Khaled has been hustling all year on his highly anticipated album, which may double as his magnum opus. Major Key has now arrived today (July 29) and the DJ’s ninth album is quite arguably his best work to date. From his momentum from winning over fans through Snapchat to signing with Roc Nation to opening up for Beyoncé, 2016 may as well be dubbed the Year of Khaled. For “Do You Mind,” the fourth single off the record, Khaled curated an epic posse cut featuring Nicki MinajChris BrownAugust AlsinaFuture and Rick Ross. The song is as big as it sounds, full of melodies and vivid bars hinting at Minaj’s very public relationship with Meek Mill or modern love in general. All in all, the track is another solid effort from the keeper of the keys himself. — KC Orcutt

Mac Miller Featuring Anderson .Paak – 'Dang!'

Mac Miller easily released one of the smoothest tracks of the summer featuring California’s own Anderson .Paak. For fans waiting for Miller’s The Devine Feminine, “Dang!” is a good track to jump in a car to cruise and groove to. It even makes a New Yorker want to rent a car to do just that. — Janice Llamoca
