DJ Khaled’s been securing a lot of bags over the past year, and since the release of his album Major Key, which just earned a No. 1 spot on the Billboard charts, the money and accolades have been rolling in ten fold.
While money’s nice, it can’t always buy respect. No worries for Khaled though, because a hip-hop legend just gave him some special praise for his LP. Lauryn Hill, whose Fugees classic “Fu-Gee-La” was sampled on Khaled’s song “Nas Album Done,” reached out to the Miami producer apparently after he asked for her blessing.
“I have fond memories of us and Salaam recording that song,” she penned via Apple Music. “My son, Zion, ironically laid his own thoughts down in verse on this same song recently. There must be something in the air.” Hill also sent Khaled her best wishes as he prepares for the birth of his own first child.
DJ Khaled, who of course was excited by Lauryn’s blessing, posted a picture on Instagram of the Apple Music note and had some nice things to say about Hill as well. “@ms_laurynhill wrote me back!!!!!!!!!!! Blessings to the Queen Ms Lauryn Hill. Send my luv to ZION .. ZION LET THAT CHUNE GO .. @ms_laurynhill thank u again!! BLESS UP … @nas bless up !! #MAJOR (key).”
Since its release on July 29, Major Key has reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. The song “Nas Album Done” does, in fact, confirm Nas has completed his forthcoming twelfth studio album. No release date or title has yet been made public for it. The Fugees' The Score turned 20 on February 13.
